Jeryl Lynn strain mumps vaccine. The Jeryl
Lynn strain, named after the child from whom the
virus was isolated, was developed in the USA by
passaging the virus in embryonated hen’s eggs, then
in chick embryo cell cultures (40). The strain was
licensed in the USA in 1967, and by 1992 it had
been administered to approximately 135 million
children and adults around the world (34).
