Agar plates (1% (w/v) bacteriological agar (Oxoid) with 1% (v/v) acetic
acid, pH 5.0) with or without (control) 0.25% (w/v) chitosan dissolved in
1% acetic acid (v/v) at pH 5.0, were prepared. On the bottom of each agar
plate (140 mm in diameter), a circle of 90 mm in diameter was drawn.
Then 450 μL of a diluted bacterial culturewas spread on each agar plate
within the circle. Groups of 20 plates with or without chitosan were
prepared with S. Enteritidis and groups of 15 plates were prepared with
the other bacteria. The plates were then dried in a laminar flowcabinet for
30 min, then incubated for 2 h at 20 °C and 60% relative humidity (RH) in
a climate chamber (Termaks KBP 6395 F, Solheimsviken, Norway). The
bacteriawere recovered using contact plates of TSA (contact time of 30 s)
that were 90 mm in diameter. Subsequently, the contact plates were
