In order to explore the possible effects of language learning strategies
on L2 acquisition, Park (1997) investigates the relationship between the
use of language learning strategies and L2 proficiency. In this study, he
reports that language learning strategies are significantly related to L2
proficiency. Furthermore, this relationship is linear, suggesting the
importance of strategy use in L2 proficiency for advanced learners as well as
beginners. This finding, however, is in contrast with another study in
which this relationship is curvilinear (Phillips. 1991).
