Kuntho or khontho , a long necked water vessel, is a type of water container used by thai people since the old days. It is circular in shape, with a long neck and made from baked clay, ceramics or glass. Clay can keep water at a suitable temperature in all climatic conditions, so water in this container is always cool whenever it is poured for drinking. A small dipping bowl for drinking from the water vessel, generally made from silver or lacquerware, is usually put over the mouth of the vessel. In the past Khontho made from mother- of-pearl and lacquer was quite popular among members of the aristocracy. In adition, the vessel was chosen as a scared water container for oath-taking ceremonies in which Thai government officials in the past took an oat of allegiance in the presence of the king
