3.1 Chemical Milling
3.1.1 Introduction
Chemical milling (CHM) is the controlled chemical dissolution (CD) of the workpiecematerial by contact with a strong reagent. Special coatings called maskants protect areas from which the metal is not to beremoved. The process is used to produce pockets and contours and toremove materials from parts having a high strength-to-weight ratio.
