Summary
With the increase in income,
domestic tourists in Korea are
seeking to diversify their leisure
life. Marine tourism is one of the
new and challenging areas for
Korean tourism. To satisfy this
demand, there are many plans at
the local level to set up marine
resorts as shown in Table 4.
These projects however require
much capital and local
governments are frequent ly
unable to f inance these
developments. Therefore, they
are now seeking diverse financial
sources such as the participation
of private companies as well as
issuing local bonds. The role of
the central government will be
important to marine tourism
particularly in eliminating
various barriers and promoting
investment to carry out the
