the times, britain's oldest national daily newspaper bought three year ago by australian press magnate rupert murdoch,
failed to appear yesterday after sacking 750 workers in an industrial dispute.
the time has been plagued by industrial trouble the last few years as murdoch and the previous owner, canadian lord thomson, battles with unions to trim staff and stem big losses.
the time management said yesterday it had dismissed 750 members of the print union sogat' 82 for disruptive action in a dispute over reallocation of duties in the paper's library.
spokesman arthur brittenden indicated the paper could be off the streets for some time, saying 'things don't look very encouraging at the moment.'
