Hubs: All wheel hub material is different from last year competition. The hubs are made of aluminum 7075 with the weight of less than casting steel previously employed. Their strength follows the SAE rules of standard and they are easy to be molded or customarily produced. The hubs are designed, FEM analyzed, and laser cut.
Uprights: Like the wheel hubs, the upright’s material is different from last year competition as well. The uprights are made of aluminum 7075 with the weight of less than casting steel previously employed. The uprights are designed to the ease of repair and adjustment. Prior to laser cut, the uprights were simulated using FEM.
Control arms: Aluminum 7075 is the material of selection. The control arms were designed to be a double wishbone type. Compared to the previous competition car last year, a unit weight of each control arm was lowered by reducing the diameter of the control arms while maintaining the same strength. The lengths of the upper control arm and the lower control arm are different by which the latter is longer due to the geometrical design for handling and suspension. The upper control arm diameter is 18 mm while the lower control arm diameter is 20 mm to withstanding the road load delivered. By calculating the force that can be transferred to the linkage prior to actual work piece construction, the real test, by pressing with the calculated force, exhibits safety for both the car parts and driver.
Springs and dampers: The system of coil spring and shock absorbers is adjustable McPherson strut type with the adjustable length linkage. By this manner in cooperation with the mentioned control arms, such wheel angles i.e. camber, toe, caster and steering axis inclination can be easily adjusted. The shock absorbers chosen were Swinger 4-way coil valve type from YSS. In fact, it is designed for motor bicycles while applied here as due to its lightweight with desired damping constant c designed for our competition car. Furthermore, its flexibility suits to the weight of the vehicle with tiny in size and ease of installation.
