Metritis is the medical term used to describe inflammation of the uterus which was recorded in only seven
(0.19%) dogs. Metritis is most often a bacterial uterine infection that develops in the immediate post-partum
period and occasionally after abortion or breeding. Clinically characterized by fever, dehydration, depression,
decreased appetite, vomiting, diarrhea, fast heart rate and vulvular discharge. Simple X-ray or an ultrasound may
show the retained tissue or fluid in the uterus and culture of vaginal discharge of the female dogs confirmed the
diagnosis.
