We havefabricatedquantumdotsolarcells(QDSSCs)incorporatingCdHgTenanocrystals(NCs)and
CdTe quantumdots(QDs),whichwepreparedseparatelyfromaqueousmixturesofNaHTe,Cd(NO3)2,
and 3-mercaptopropionicacidinthepresenceandabsenceofHgCl2, respectively.Afterdepositingthe
CdHgTeNCsandCdTeQDsontoTiO2 electrodescoatedwithpoly(dimethyldiallylammoniumchloride),
stabilizedthroughelectrostaticinteractions,weobtained(CdHgTe)3 and (CdHgTe)3-(CdTe)2 QDSSCs
having energyconversionefficienciesof1.0%and2.2%,respectively.Theincidentphoton-to-current
conversionefficiencies(IPCEs)ofthe(CdHgTe)3 and (CdHgTe)3-(CdTe)2 QDSSCswere12.2%and17.5%,
respectively.Thehigherenergyconversionefficiencyofthe(CdHgTe)3-(CdTe)2 QDSSCsrelativetothat
of the(CdTe)3-(CdHgTe)2 QDSSCsresultedfromthegreaterelectrontransferefficiencyintheformer
system. ThecombinationofCdHgTeNCsandCdTeQDsandtheirdepositionsequencearetwo
importantfactorsaffectingtheQDSSCs’efficiencies,whichwerecontrolledbytheirphotocurrent
densitiesandfillfactors.
