The objectives of this investigation are the following: (i) selection and
characterization of hydrolytic bacteria from different habitats,
adopted to various and changing environmental conditions, (ii)
construction of a Microbial Consortium with High Cellulolytic
Activity, called MCHCA from the isolated microorganisms,
which will increase degradation of maize silage, and (iii)
simulation of the biogas production in a system similar to
those used in agricultural biogas plants, i.e., with separate
and independent hydrolysis and methane fermentation steps,
using the developed consortium for the pretreatment of the
substrate.
