Accelerations in Machining
In addition to force and torque signals, the acquisition of acceleration measurements can also be important for the analysis of a manufacturing process. A familiar problem, for example, is the chatter that causes the machining process to become unstable due to poor engagement conditions. This leads to the system experiencing excessive vibration and the quality of the surface finish suffers. Accelerometers mounted on the machine make it simple to monitor this vibration induced chatter, or indeed any other vibrations seen by the tool and work piece.
