The synthesis protocol for nanorods was developed by the groups of Murphy and El-Sayed and later modified by many others
[5,6,15–18].
For low aspect ratio, i.e. short rods, it involves a onestep growth procedure [15].
For long high aspect ratio rods, the synthesis is performed in a three-step procedure [6].
The resulting nanorod suspensions are highly monodisperse. Moreover, the relatively simple way to synthesize them, makes it economically very feasible.
