The insurer retains over 90% of the insured risk (see Table 1) and, therefore, does not pay any reinsurance premium for
smaller risks under surplus coverage.
Higher retention levels, however, lead to larger amounts of retained claims and a smaller RPS ratio
(420.35) under surplus reinsurance compared with RPS ratio obtained under quota-share or a combination of quota-share and surplus (512.08 and 444.75, respectively).
