ew charter to be written by a new drafting panel should have a provisional clause to solve problems which may arise during the transition period, Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said on Wednesday.
"It's only my opinion," Gen Prawit noted. "There could be a provisional clause. Maybe not."
Gen Prawit's was commenting on the formation of a new 21-member Constitution Drafting Committee and a 200-member National Reform Steering Assembly.
He said the National Council for Peace and Order might have to hold a meeting with the cabinet to select members of the NRSA, which will replace the National Reform Council that rejected the previous draft constitution.
As for the CDC, Gen Prawit said believed the selection of the 21 members would be finished within the required 30-day timeframe.
He declined to comment on speculation that former prime minister Anand Panyarachun and former deputy prime minister Meechai Ruchupan would sit on the CDC.
"I think the 21 members of the CDC must be selected from people who the public has confidence in. They have to do the best job so that the new draft charter can be endorsed in a referendum," Gen Prawit said.
Asked about Deputy Prime Minister Wissanu Krea-ngam's suggestion on the "6-4-6-4 roadmap, the 20-month timeframe to an election that starts next month, Gen Prawit said it fit the schedule specified in the interim constitution. He added that the election might come sooner, but should not be delayed beyond that period.
