The aim of the present study was to quantify the potential
benefits from recycling charcoal dust into charcoal briquettes
regarding reduction of GHG emissions and increased cooking fuel
supply.
The GHG emissions were quantified using LCA methodology.
The study was carried out to address the above-mentioned
knowledge gaps, including determination of emissions factors
from cooking stoves using charcoal briquettes, charcoal and
kerosene, and assessment of the GWP from cooking a traditional
meal for a standard household of five people. Furthermore, the
additional amount of cooking fuel produced from recycling
charcoal dust into charcoal briquettes was determined. The study
also assessed the wood and land requirements for wood production
for charcoal and charcoal briquettes in different production
systems.
