The next stage of this initiative is to diagnostically test all of these students during their first week of
fourth-year mathematics and to compare this grade with their first attempt and final grade in the
Advanced Mathematics Diagnostic Test at the end of third year. A comparison will also be done
between these grades and the results when the test was given to the previous year’s fourth-year class.
In addition, a series of practice tests will be created for each topic on the test. At the A total of 167 students attempted the Advanced Mathematics Diagnostic Test. On the first attempt,
only 2 out of 167 students achieved the pass mark of 90%. The average mark for each subtopic is
shown in Table 1, with an overall average mark of 32%, we can see the majority of our students are
struggling with all of the topics with the exception of basic differentiation and integration. In particular,
