The Ecotourism Best Practices Guidelines Manual
The Ecotourism Best Practices Guidelines Manual outlines the criteria agreed
upon by the Botswana tourism industry in 2008. These criteria were felt to
reflect the range of environmental management practices that can be assessed
and used to help grade facilities under the ecotourism certification program. The
Manual was prepared in two formats. A comprehensive manual detailing all of
the criteria selected by the industry and their rational / benefits for inclusion
and a more user friendly manual for distribution to the industry members
wishing to improve and learn a little more about their environmental tourism
activities. Approximately 200 criteria were selected with supporting guidelines
that detail the planning, development and operational requirements of an
ecotourism business, i.e. an ecotourism business plan / an EIA / life-cycle
analysis and a site analysis.
