5.2.5
Waste from the building exits via three routes. Waste from
the DIW generation unit is used as top-up feed-water for the
cooling tower, to partly replace any volume lost through the
plume created during the evaporative cooling process along
with any lost volume due to blowdowns. Strong contaminated
waste, or waste that the WWTP cannot handle, is directed to
the waste separation unit, where it is concentrated further.
The treatable wastewater is extracted and sent to the pH
Plant for treatment. The concentrated waste is then sent
offsite for disposal (F26). The third waste stream from the
production building is also directed to the pH Plant, where
it is chemically treated prior to being directed to the mixing
chamber, which discharges to the municipal industrial waste
collection system via the flowmeter F3.
