A total of 1,050 strains of heterotrophic bacteria isolated from farming seawater and the intestines of
oyster species Crassostreahongkongensis weretestedforresistanceto10antibioticsbytheKirby–Bauer
diffusion method.Theresistantratesofseawater-derivedbacteriatochloramphenicol,enrofloxacin,and
ciprofloxacinwerelow(lessthan20%),whereasthebacteriaobtainedfromoystersshowedlow
resistance tochloramphenicolandenrofloxacin.Manystrainsshowedhighresistantrates(morethan
40%) tofurazolidone,penicillinG,andrifampin.Atotalof285strainsfromfarmingseawaterandoysters
wereresistanttomorethanthreeantibiotics.Severalstrainsshowedresistancetomorethannine
antibiotics. Furthermore,thepeakresistantratesoftheseawater-derivedstrainstomultipleantibiotics
overlappedinApril,June,September,andNovember,andthoseofoyster-derivedstrainsoverlapped
during April,July,andSeptember.Themulti-resistantratepatternsofstrainsfromfarmingseawaterand
