Yet we should be more aware
than Dewey
of the obduracy
of divisions of class, gender, and race, and work self-consciously for multicultural democracy
and education.
This task suggests that we valorize difference and cultural specificity,
as well as equality and shared universal Deweyean values
such as freedom, equality, individualism, and participation.
