depression. In support of the hypotheses, it was found that adaptive
perfectionists showed higher levels of hope (i.e., agency and
pathways), as well as lower levels of depression than the other
perfectionist groups. However, contrary to the hypotheses, there
was no difference in levels of depression and pathways between
maladaptive and non-perfectionists. Surprisingly, maladaptive perfectionists
had higher levels of agency than non-perfectionists.
Finally, as hypothesised both agency and pathways were found
to mediate the relationship between adaptive and maladaptive
perfectionism and depression.
