To study the effects of the reaction time and ultrasound
amplitude on biogas yield the aqueous chicken manure
mixture was sonicated with 3 different amplitudes (63, 94,
125 mm/measured maximal deflection of the sonotrode material at the tip, measured in mm peak-to-peak, producer information) at 2 different times (1, 2 min) and evaluated by
statistical methods. The results are presented in Fig. 2. As can
be seen, in every experiment the use of ultrasound disintegration leads to a significant increase in biogas yield with
respect to the untreated sample. Moreover, an increase in
ultrasound amplitude as well as reaction time has a positive
effect on the biogas yield, whereas the effect of reaction time
is more significant. Best result (393 NL/kg ODM) could be
reached at a reaction time of 2 min with amplitude of 93 mm,
leading to an increase in biogas yield of 41% with respect to
the untreated sample (278 NL/kg ODM).
