This study found that the majority of teen mothers were living in poverty (50.4%) as compared with (49.6%) non-teen mothers. Another research question related to variations in educational attainment of teen mothers and non-teen mothers by ethnic groups. The ethnic make up of the respondents is as follows for teen mothers: White 46.4%, Black 44.5% and others 9.1 %. The ethnic make up for non-teen mothers: White70.6%, Black 23.6% and others 5.8%. The analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to examine the educational attainment for teen mothers and non-teen mothers by ethnic groups (Table 3). The results indicated that a difference does exist in the educational attainment of teen mothers (F = 11.269; p = .005) and non-teen mothers (F = 13.437; p = .005) by ethnic groups. Black teen mothers had higher levels of education, with 12.05 years as compared to White teen mothers, who had 11.61 years of education. The non-teen mothers group had a mean education of 13.42 years for Blacks and 13.60 years for Whites. This study also investigated the educational attainment of the two groups (teen mothers and non-teen mothers) by their current region of residence. Results of one-way ANOVA did not indicate a statistically significant difference between region of residence and educational attainment in both, teen group (F = 2.204; p = .086) and non-teen group (F = 2.91 ;p = .033).
