The levelsofheavymetalcontaminationinseawaterand
sediments instudiedregionwerenoticedgenerallyhighercom-
pared tonormalmetalconcentrationuncontaminatedcoastline.
Both ofthesamplingregionswerecontaminatedwithconsider-
able amountsofCdandZn.Thedistributionofheavymetalsin
seawaterandsurfacesedimentswasfoundtobepositively
correlated,suggestingsimilardepositionpatternsfromseawater
to sedimentsinthestudiedcoastalenvironment.Accumulation
pattern ofheavymetalsbythepredominantmacroalgaevaried
widely,andwascomparableinrangestothosereportedinthe
literatureforindustrializedcoastalareas.Inaddition,theirselec-
tiveaccumulationwasnotable,suggestingtheirsuitabilityforthe
purpose ofmonitoringheavymetalcontaminationinthecoastal
marine environments. U.lactuca accumulated thehighestlevelof
Cu, FeandZn, P.gymnospora accumulatedthehighestlevelofCd,
Mn andNi. Enteromorpha sp. accumulatedthemaximumPband
Dictyota D.bartayresiana accumulated themaximumCr.These
algae areabundantlypresentintheGulfKutchandthuscanbe
used asaverygoodbiomonitorforheavymetalpollutionstudies.
These resultscouldalsobeusefulforcomparisonwithfuturedata
of heavymetalpollutionoftheGulfofKutch.
