Prior to the experiment per se, does selected from a regional
farm herd were submitted to 45 days of housing adaptation,
with an endo- and ectoparasite treatment at the beginning. Also,
at the onset of the adaptation period, the estrous cycles were
induced/synchronized by the insertion of an intravaginal progesterone
insert (Controlled intravaginal drug release, CIDR®; InterAg,
Hamilton, New Zealand), left for 5 days. At CIDR removal, animals
received 1 mL (0.075 mg) PGF2 intramuscularly (Prolise®;
Tecnopec, ARSA S.R.L., Argentina).
