These first evidences on Tilapia by-product hydrolysate activ-ity suggested that it may be used to improve disease resistanceof farmed fish. Pathogen infection was a major problem in inten-sive farmed fish and leads to massive used of antibiotics. However,the development of antibiotic-resistance pathogens is growingand preventive treatments are playing a greater role to man-age pathogen infection and reduce the massive use of antibiotic[24]. Antibacterial peptides could also exhibit immunomodu-latory activity and so improve resistance and survival againstpathogen infection [8]. These first evidences on Tilapia by-producthydrolysate suggested that it may be used to improve disease resis-tance of farmed fish but further investigation must be performed toconfirm this hypothesis. Furthermore, this assumption is reinforcedby the work of [21], who demonstrated that a Tilapia hydrolysate(provided by the same manufacturer) improved survival of redseabream challenged by E. tarda.
