Follicles in the maturational hierarchy become atretic and the yolk material is resorbed.
Ovary weight declines as follicles become atretic. Reduction in ovary weight is initially dependent on the duration of fasting and the rate of BW loss.
Beyond 25% BW loss, the ovary is fully regressed.
