Steve worked nights to pay his way through graduate school and obtained a masters in business. He joined a brokerage business and worked his way up the corporate ladder. By the time he retired at 65 as a vice president of the company, Steve had accumulated a nest egg of savings through stock and bond purchases, owned a house in an affluent suburb of Philadelphia, and could look forward to substantial monthly pension payments as well as Social Security.
