In a polluted environment, increasing outdoor air
volume, for example with an economizer cycle, either increases
filtration requirements or results in a deterioration
of indoor air quality. On the other hand, reducing
airflow to conditioned spaces due, for example, to a conversion
to a variable air volume system, reduces the filtration
of recycled indoor air which can likewise produce
a reduction in air quality. The concerns regarding indoor
air quality are discussed in more detail in Chapter 17.
