Establish Pellet Quality Standards: To track pellet quality,
set up a formal schedule that specifies feeds to check,
and their testing frequency. The “tumbling-can” method
developed at Kansas State University and adopted by the
American Society of Agricultural Engineers (ASAE)is the
method most commonly used to determine pellet durability
[ASAE, 1997]. Follow the method closely, paying special
attention to the time interval between pelleting and durability
testing. Keep this interval as constant as possible so that
the testing provides consistent results.
