This study demonstrated a potential to recycle water hyacinth
for an economical swine wastewater treatment. According to data
contained herein, water hyacinth straw could be useful for waste
removal. The material acted as a phosphorus adsorbent and the removal
rate varied with the contact time. Compared with similar
facilities, the present facultative tank with water hyacinth straws
covering the water showed a much greater NH3-N reduction efficiency.
It is speculated that a similar result could be obtained on
a large-scale operation, and the present system would be able to
achieve WSP treatment effects with less land than the conventional
design.
