Art and Architecture had a new role. They were, in many cases, executed to popularize what were believe to be visible truths about both the Church and the State. Art of seventeenth centuries was to a large degree an ออโธ, persuasive art that at times verged on high-powered propaganda. Art of the renaissance was, on the other hand, primarily religious, and was relatively simple, self-contained and sewlf-sufficient. More than in Rnaissance, the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries dealt with secular public art in terms of large decorative ensembles designed to display the glory of the patron. But this does not mean that religious art was in any way neglected as is sometimes stated.
