As for the 2D radar data, we evaluated the most appropriate lower
threshold of the vertical distance ΔH for hail detection from insurance
loss data. Again, evaluation of the hail criterion is performed on a daily
basis with the maximum value being calculated for every location and
every day. If ΔH reaches a value over 8 km, the calculation may become
incorrect, especially during summer months with a freezing level above
3 km, and is therefore discarded.
