In the Eastern culture that values collectivism, a “we” consciousness prevails: identity is
based on the social system; the individual is emotionally dependent on families, institutions and
affiliations; and individuals trust group decisions. It is generally believed that “Asians tend to be
more aware of the connections they have as members of their social groups, and therefore, they
tend to be more conscious of the consequences of their actions on their members of their groups”
[18]. And in communication behavior, the Easterners are likely to show traits such as indirectness,
explicitness, saving face, concern for others, group cooperation, group decision-making, etc.
