4. Conclusions
Present study demonstrated the role of substrate concentration,
nitrogen and phosphorous concentration on PHA accumulation in
mixed consortia under anoxic microenvironment. Higher substrate
load, lower nitrogen and phosphorous concentrations showed
higher PHA accumulation. Produced PHA was composed of the
copolymer P3(HB-co-HV) where PHB fraction was higher compared
to PHV. Enzyme activities, bioprocess evaluation and wastewater
treatment were evaluated which showed good correlation
with PHA accumulation. Phylogenetic profile of mixed culture
showed the dominance of Firmicutes and Proteobacteria which are
known PHA accumulators associated with waste treatment.
Production of PHA from wastewater treatment by mixed culture
significantly reduces the production cost.
