We are all different people with different interests, ways of thinking and motivations. Therefore sometimes we experience issues understanding others. There is one theory, which origins can be traced back to the time of Hippocrates, which aims to simplify human nature and bring it down to 4 main temperaments.
The sanguine are identified with air - lively, sociable, and pleasure seeking. They may be warm-hearted and optimistic, and thus make new friends easily. Imaginative and artistic sanguine personalities may be chronically late or forgetful.
Choleric temperament is traditionally associated with fire, more likely to be egocentric and extroverted. They tend to be task-oriented people, impulsive and ambitious - often good leaders. They characterize with reserves of aggression, energy, and passion, which they often try to instill in others.
The melancholic correspond with the element of earth. These people may appear serious, introverted, cautious or even suspicious. They can become preoccupied with the tragedy and cruelty in the world and are susceptible to depression and moodiness.
The phlegmatic temperament can be compared with water. People with this temperament may be inward and thoughtful. These people tend to have a rich inner life. Tolerant and consistent in their habits they are most likely to be steady and faithful friends. People of this temperament may appear somewhat ponderous or clumsy.
