New cops to stem narcotics smuggling
Hundreds of newly trained police officers will be sent to northern border provinces to help stem the influx of illicit drugs along the Thai-Myanmar border.
Police Region 6 would send a new batch of 500 police from the agency's police training centre in Nakhon Sawan, Pol Lt Gen Vorasak Noppasittiporn, commander of Police Region 6, said. The deployments will begin Thursday.
The young officers will be stationed at police outposts in border areas to help prevent the smuggling of illicit drugs into the country, he said.
More road checkpoints will be set up and the number of police patrols will increase
