The foodstuff casing is obtained from cellulose dissolved in an ionic liquid by extrusion and subsequent precipitation, is chewable and is stretched in longitudinal and transverse direction, whose stretching degree is 1:1.2 to 1:1.8. An independent claim is included for a procedure for the production of food casing.
