GAAP permits two different method for converting the foreign subsidiary’ s financial statements into U.S. dollars , based on the foreign entity’s functional currency. If the functional currency is the U.S. dollar, the foreign financial statements are remeasured into U.S. dollars using the tamporal method.
If the functional currency is the local currency of the foreign entity,the foreign financial statements are translated are into U.S. dollars using the current rate method . A company should select the method that best reflects the nature of its foreign operations.
