Sleep Deprivation is a growing problem in our society today, especially for students. Students are not getting enough sleep to achieve in school. Sleep is vital for adolescents and the lack of it is having an impact on the health of students. As a student myself, I’ve become very familiar with this problem. I see and hear about students’ lack of sleep on a daily basis and struggle with it myself. Sleep deprivation is becoming especially problematic for college students, as college is students’ first chance at independence. There are no parents to delegate sleeping schedules and students choose when and how long they go to sleep, whether they understand the importance of sleep or not. Sleep deprivation is caused by society’s pressures to succeed, which leads to many illnesses and decreases in academic success in college students. However, students continue to do this because they don’t realize the long-term consequences.
