Perhaps the turning point o f the hearing came w hen Packer
told the story of Sam wanting to see a sunrise before he died.
Sam had quietly made the request. He knew he was going to die,
said he was ready to go, and that he’d like to go out early one
morning and see the sun come up. So Packer arranged it and
Sam spent an hour drinking coffee and waiting for the sun.
Afterward, he was very grateful.
Adam had no questions for Packer.
Roxburgh announced that the next witness was Ralph
Griffin, the prison chaplain.
