Definition of Objectives
The design purpose of the production system is expressed by its inherent objectives. The internal objectives can be derived from the results of the interaction between inherent and external objectives. Thereby, the inherent objectives of a production system should be equal to the corporate objectives. Premium product manufacturer should have a quality-oriented production, whereas mass product manufacturer should rather focus on shot cycle times. Before a self-optimising production control can be implemented, the corporate objectives have to be identified and the production has to be adjusted accordingly. If several objectives are contradictory, they have to be evaluated and subsequently prioritised. The objective with the highest priority will be realised.
