The idea of planning and committing to plans is consistent with a variety of cognitive and behavioral treatments. Although the aspects of reality therapy that include “don’t accept excuses,” “don’t criticize or argue,” and “don’t give up easily” are particularly appropriate to some of the difficult populations(juvenile and adult offenders and drug and alcohol abusers) that reality therapists encounter, such advice is consistent with many theoretical approaches.
