We compared recently evolved enhancers and positively selected genes in two newly sequenced species: (1) naked mole rat, a cancer-resistant rodent (Kim et al., 2011); and (2) dolphin, a marine mammal metabolically adapted to an aquatic
environment (Sun et al., 2013). In both species, we found that recently evolved enhancers are over-represented near positively selected genes (Experimental Procedures) (p values = 0.022 [naked mole rat] and 0.023 [dolphin], hypergeometric test. See Table S5).
