A number of works on different plant models have shown that specific plant ABC transporters are required for the formation of arbuscular mycorrhiza, a widespread type of mutualistic interaction between plants and fungi of the phylum Glomeromycota [8, 9, 10], and, furthermore, it was demonstrated that the corresponding transporter acts as strigolactone exporter in petunia [10]. It is not known yet whether any of fungal ABC transporters participate in the formation of mycorrhizal interactions.
