To further investigate the potential effect of cadmium exposure
on cardiovascular fitness, we examined if a relationship between
cadmium exposure, as measured by urinary concentrations, and reduced cardiovascular fitness, as measured by VO2 max, existed
and perhaps varied between gender and racial groups in a
representative sample of the US population from the 1999 to
2000 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey
(NHANES). NHANES is a cross-sectional survey conducted by the
CDC (2007).
