Range-finding studies were conducted using adult rats, in which
two to four dose levels were administered to separate animals (1–4
per dose) to determine doses which produce moderate but not
extreme signs of toxicity. Rats were assessed every 15–30 min
throughout the day to determine time to maximal behavioral effects.
Doses and time of testing for the subsequent studies were based on
these results (data not shown). The same doses and testing times
were used for adult and preweanling pups, to allow direct
comparisons.
