certain types of data can be presented by means of a table. the simplest type of table is a collection of paired entries such that no two pairs have the same first entry. the first entry in each pair is called the argument, and the second entry is called the value (of the table for that argument). For example, Table 9-1 is a table giving the probability of throwing one of the numbers 2,3,4,...,12 with a pair of dice.
