The Malaysian legal system is based on Common Law Tradition.
There are the Federal Court, Court of Appeals, high courts, session's courts, magistrate's courts, and juvenile courts.
The judges of the Federal Court are appointed by the paramount ruler on the advice of the prime minister.
Malaysia also has a Special Court to hear cases brought by or against all Royalty.
Separated from the civil courts, there is the Syariah Courts which decide on cases which involve Malaysian Muslims. These courts run parallel to the normal court system.
